Small, relatively low-speed, autonomous aircraft will inevitably encounter strong winds either approaching or possibly exceeding their nominally desired flight speeds. Such conditions may disturb mission performance and, in extreme cases, can lead to vehicle runaway. This talk will dive into the newly implemented wind-robust path following guidance on PX4 which addresses these issues at the guidance level, specifically for fixed-wing flight modes, resulting in repeatable, intuitive, and safe flight behaviors. The algorithm's various features, configurations, and performance will be presented with a focus on how users can deploy the logic on their own airframes.
