To support a more distribute avionics architecture, we worked on investigating and implementing a variant of the PX4 software stack that allowed us to link multiple execution domains running on either separate cores, or discrete processors using the RTPS bridge and a parameter database synchronization interface. This allowed us to flexibly allocate various modules and drivers to different execution domains to compose a complete PX4 flight stack. This has many benefits, including better risk isolation, more efficient compute resource utilization, and being able to run safety/latency critical routines in a RTOS environment, while keeping the higher-level routines in a linux/posix environment.
